rugby is our national game. local and national competitions run throughout the year. the hurricanes are our super 14 league team and they play their home games at the stadium. our whole family went to the game on 25 April between the hurricanes and one of the australian teams - the brumbies. [the brumby is a horse].new zealand and australia have always had a sporting rivalry, but there was a time when they fought side by side.
25 april is the anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli in 1915. 2,721 New Zealand and 8770 Australian soldiers died during the eight-month Gallipoli Campaign.
last night's rugby game had an anzac theme, with remembrances and canon fire.
the home team (ours!) went on to win 54-7.
